“Django Jane” by Janelle Monáe

I have been following Janelle Monáe‘s music journey for the past nine years, and every year she never ceases to blow me away. What can she not do? She’s an activist, she acts, she sings, she raps, and she even owns her own independent music label! This song speaks to me on so many levels. If you don’t mind a few expletives, her words can hit your core to a deeper level. From women empowerment to growing up with parents in the working class, her work ethic and intellect bleed through her words. I believe this song is a powerful manifesto to women!

“Chunky” by Bruno Mars

My 90’s heart loves every inch of this song. I can’t help but nod my head, snap my fingers, and step-touch when I hear this song. It reminds me of the time I was invited to my boyfriend's dads party. His dad invited his friends, hired a DJ, cooked food, and two-stepped the night away! These are the kind of songs that keep dance going and bring people together. I dare you to listen to this song and try not to move. It’s impossible! Bruno Mars is just too funky.

“Why Don’t You” by Cleo Sol

One day my boyfriend and I decided to listen to a random playlist on Apple Music, so we chose a jazz station. We came across this soulful song and immediately we were captivated by her voice. Not only is this song so feel good, her words will shine truth, honesty, and encouragement through the speakers into your soul.

“Never Enough” by Loren Allred

The first time I heard this song was when I watched the movie, "The Greatest Showman" in theaters. The incredible visual of this woman and a beautiful white gown on an epic stage, still is embedded in my memory. The music hit my core and I didn’t realize I held my breath! This woman’s vocal ability is jaw-dropping and this song makes me want to climb a mountaintop and sing at the top of my lungs to the person I love!

“The Philosopher” by Ezra Collective

If you ever need a morning pick me up, this percussive and energetic song by the Ezra Collective is better than coffee!! Even though this song has been on repeat in my car, every second becomes new layers of surprises! It can be a fun tap dance number, salsa number, or just a fun group of fearless people jamming out to the unpredictable beats of this song!
